Jock Animation.

Hi, I'm back after almost three years in production with Jock-Animation. I have been working with Duncan MacNeillie for the past three years on the great adventure of Jock of the bushveld. We have grown so much and developed many tools to improve production pipelines and hope to lead the way in the film industry for South Africa.

We managed to script riggs for the film and produce multiple characters in weeks. From quadrupeds to bipeds and birds to incests we rigged them all. We also manage to develop our own stereoscopic rig in the time when the 3d platform was still an idea in South-Africa. Half way in the production after Duncan went to Annecy we decided to go 3D on the film. We have already rendered half the film and needed to add the right side (right eye) of the film to the render farm. In the schedule it looked almost imposible but like always we made it work and got going on the R&D and tests at Ster-Kinerkor. After our first 3d stereoscopic viewing at our local cinema and compiling our first DCP, it was just down hill from there.

If you want to see more on the project just go and check the website on www.jock-animation.com. Must say this was one of the best projects in the country so far and want to thank all that was involved with the project.

That me out...

The Springbok Sasol Add

We have been working on the Sasol Add for two months and have gained a lot of knowledge within Zbrush, Tracking, realistic texturing and lighting in Maya. I also wrote mel scripts to assist us in the making of the environment.

My first script was a texture assignment script that automatically assign a high resolution map of 4k to foreground objects and assign low res texture to object in the background. The same script was used to assign displacement map to foreground objects and bumps to background objects.

The second script i wrote was very helpful, especially with random placement of objects on a curve, example random rocks and structure placements. First you create a object library that you want to use to generate the random object placement, and then you draw a curve on a object to give the script points to place the objects.

It was a fantastic add to work on, and also to be working with the Countries best director Keith Rose.

Mel scripts for Sasol Add.

I have recently worked on a few mel scripts to help me with big scenes and automating procedures with the Sasol springbok add. I was responsible for 3d tracking and scene setups on the Sasol Add. Here is a sneak peak of some shots.

Hand / Mocp Riggs

The past two years I have explored the world of rigging and wrote my own rigging scripts to make the process of rigging more time efficient. The first rig is made for hand animation and you can generate your own rig by just clicking a few buttons. the second rig is more complex and have the capabilities to blend different body parts on the rig between Mocap, FK and IK. And then Finally I wrote a user interface for that animators to make their lives a bit easier.
